The sea of vines is spellbinding. The endless rows form a perfect grid with each plant defiantly anchored in the red-coloured soils of the slopes. This is the land of Toro. Its vines stretch away from the banks of the Duero River, where farmers and wine people have laboured for thousands of years. Thanks to their tireless efforts, the vine plant has triumphed despite the harshness and extreme conditions of the place.
The challenges of working at altitude on pebbly soils and during the harsh winters of a Continental climate offering miserly rainfall only strengthened their resolve. The working of the land being a great task in itself. Through their tenacity, single-mindedness and love for their vines, Toro growers have succeeded in creating a treasure in the pure European, time-honoured wine-growing tradition.
